Sabyasachi Spring Summer 2018: Wedding Trends to Look Out For

Sabyasachi revealed his Spring Summer 2018 collection on Instagram this week. He’s made a tradition out of this, with his last few seasons’ collections getting launched on his Insta-feed, instead of the runway! The wedding outfits were gorgeous and, as is always the case, will dominate the wedding fashion trends this year.

So while you ogle over the beautiful lehengas and stunning jewellery, do take notes of what’s going to trend at 2018 weddings. Effortless chic, if we hear what Sabyasachi has to say. You can read the collection note at the end of the post.

Here are the Trends we spotted in Sabyasachi’s latest spring summer collection that will inspire the big Indian wedding bridal look this year!

#1 Stripes, Stripes Everywhere!

Striped Graphic Lehengas

Big Stripes in bold colours for lehengas paired with contrasting tilla work raw silk blouses make for an eye-catching destination wedding outfit. For the Mehendi or Pool party, perhaps?

Styling Tip By Sabyasachi: “The strong graphic look is rain-washed with fluttery organza dupattas in whimsical colours. Wear your hair loose with strong glares, ethnic chandbalis and a multitude of glass bangles for a playful ‘street-couture’ style.”

Striped Dupattas

A nice way to add a touch of quirk to your traditional Mehendi lehenga!

Styling Tip By Sabyasachi: “Keep it young, organic and summer fresh with nude make-up, open hair, jadau maang tika and glass bangles.”

#2 Matchy-Matchy Monotones

Your entire outfit in a single colour? Sabya says YES! You can go monotone in 3 different ways:

Fluorescent Monotones

The designer throws the recent pastel wedding trend out the window by bringing bright colours back, and how! With lehengas drenched in a single neon hue from head to toe!!! *mic drop by Sabya*

Styling Tip By Sabyasachi: “Pair with plain organza dupattas, nude make-up & statement jewellery. Make sure your man wears white! ”

Mr. Mukherjee says he actually loves it when brides & grooms go matchy-matchy with a single colour from head to toe – including the groom’s safa & pocket square!

#3 Colour Blocking

Just because monotone is back, doesn’t mean colour-blocking isn’t. Colour-blocking WITH florals? Yes, you can do that too!

#4 Benarsi Silk Dupattas

Benarsi silk has been a hot wedding trend for a while now and Sabyasachi has ensured the love for it will continue! In his Spring Summer collection, he shows you how to perfectly style your Benarsi silk dupatta with a lehenga (hint: use colour-blocking!)

#5 Elegant Whites

#6 Florals Aren’t Going Anywhere

Just when you couldn’t get enough of florals from the Udaipur collection, Sabya gives us even more with 3 styles of floral outfits!

Floral Organza Lehengas

These are light-weight: perfect for brides! “They have the volume of couture and the lightness demanded by modern times”, says Sabyasachi.

Vintage Flora & Fauna Print: The Shikargarh Saree

He’s created 29 different prints for these organza saris, in order to preserve silk screen printing in West Bengal. His reasons may be noble, and the mint and yellow versions below are giving us vintage sari goals!

Styling Tip by Sabyasachi: “Saris like these go well with old world blouses and heritage South Indian jewellery.”

#7 Rustic Baroque

Sabyasachi says, “A definite trend for Spring-Summer 2018 is rustic baroque.” If you’re wondering what this even means, it’s basically pairing ultra-luxurious & dramatic elements with the ordinary. So, the humble khadi & sumptuous silk are found in the same outfit. Printed cotton (cheenth) marries rich embroidery. And sophisticated florals come together with peasant stripes.

Rustic Baroque In Jewellery

In the words of Sabya, “Big precious uncut diamonds and tourmalines are threaded together with corals and turquoise beads to create spectacular neck-pieces and maang tikas that merge serious intent with a whimsical spirit.”

We love it because it’s an alternative to the now popular Navratan (9 gem-stones) necklace, giving us another way to incorporate colourful stones in our bridal jewellery!

About The Collection

‘An Endless Summer’ is almost a ready-to-wear take on bridal couture. Effortless chic being the buzzword, the clothes are lighter, brighter, measured and sophisticated. Post Anushka’s wedding, the new beauty trend is ‘au naturel’. Colour gets out of make-up completely and dives into clothes. An imperceptible flush on the cheek, glossy and glassy lips, mirrored sunnies, open hair and statement jewellery create the new look. “

The collection was created by Sabyasachi keeping in mind the neo-classical style and the trend of destination weddings. With most of the fabrics like muslin, khaki etc, and designs easy on the eyes and the wearer, there are great choices for a bride who wants to feel light and free on her wedding, being able to enjoy herself.

Will you be wearing any of these trends to a wedding?
