Here’s what happened- as we geared up to launch our services in Chennai, we thought we’d do our bit to serve the residents of Chennai as part of our launch in the city. On August 2, Urban Company partnered with the Chennai City Police to promote road safety on the streets of Chennai- a key concern in the city.

In an attempt to monitor two-wheeler riders who are often seen riding without helmets, Urban  Company and Chennai police were seen distributing free helmets to those commuters who were riding without helmets, at five locations in the city- T-nagar VN road signal, Cement road junction signal, Ramapuram signal, DLF signal, Adyar signal at different times of the day.

The main aim of this activity was to promote safety on roads and make people aware about the importance of using protection gear, following traffic rules. The drive also helped build relations of confidence and trust between the traffic police and the common people. We’d also like to clap for the two Assistant commissioners, Mr. Dharmalingam and Mr. Anwar Basha who were present during the activity. The traffic police and the Urban Company team gave a short demonstration on road safety to those 2-wheeler riders who were riding without helmets and distributed Urban Company sponsored helmets to them, to promote the importance of wearing helmets on the road.

Earlier, in an attempt to serve other cities we’d also teamed up with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to assist the authorities in cleaning up the mess that had accumulated after the MCD workers went on a long strike turning East Delhi into a huge garbage dump. In Mumbai the Urban Company team had taken to the streets in June/July and fixed the painful pothole problem by filling multiple potholes in Bandra.

Our vision is to serve the cities of India, and we believe the best way to do that is to begin with the people of these cities.
