Lipstick is a product of the makeup world which not only completes your look but also makes you stand out. This is one of the reasons why it is one of the most important makeup products you can have in your makeup bag. There are so many different shades of lipsticks you can choose from and these days lipsticks come loaded with vitamin E and other essential oils to protect your lips in addition to styling.

Since lipstick has been given so much importance, it is only natural that you want your lipstick to look perfect and last you all day.

While you can purchase lipsticks that have a long-lasting formula, it is essential that you know the right tricks to make any lipstick last for hours. Here are some tips that you can use to make your lipstick last longer:

1. Exfoliate

If you want your lipstick to look amazing, you need to make sure that you get rid of the dead skin cells regularly. You can choose to use a store-bought lip scrub but it is always economical to make a simple lip exfoliator at home. Just mix a few drops of olive oil with powdered sugar and use this mixture to remove the dead skin cells from your lips. This mixture will be gentle on your lips. The olive oil will moisturize your lips and the sugar will remove the dead skin cells. You will be amazed to see how soft and smooth your lips will feel after the scrub.

2. Hydrate

Even the best lipstick can look patchy on dry lips. And this is the reason why you need to keep your lips hydrated at all times. Purchase a good quality lip balm to prevent your lips from drying. You can also use a lip balm with an SPF during the day since the skin on your lips is the thinnest as compared to the rest of your face. It gets affected by the harsh rays of the sun and can get damaged if not protected. Keep a lip balm handy during the day to apply on your lips whenever they feel dry. And, have an extra nourishing lip balm to apply at night. Be sure to wake up with luscious lips the next day.

4. Define

Different people have different needs. When it comes to the shape of the lips,. some want bigger lips while others want smaller ones and there are also a few that just want them to be more even and well-defined. Thanks to lip liners, you can create a shape of lips that you prefer. All you need to do is to take a flesh-toned or light pink lip liner and use it to create the desired shape. If you have decided to make your lips appear smaller using a lip liner, you need to use a medium to high coverage concealer to hide your natural lip line. Fill it in using the same lip liner to create a base for your lips. If you have unevenly pigmented lips, this will help you to counter that problem as well. Once your lips are covered with a flesh-toned or pink lip liner, the pigmentation will not be clearly visible and when you apply lipstick, it will show the true color of the lipstick.

4. Colour

You can choose to apply lipstick using a lip brush, fingers, or the lipstick tube. If you just want a hint of color, you can use a tinted lip balm or apply lipstick using your fingers. It will leave a beautiful stain and the finished look will be more natural. If you want to do it perfectly then use a lip brush to apply the lipstick since you will have more control over the application. However, for a complete color pay off, you need to apply the lipstick directly from the tube. Then, press your lips together gently to distribute the color evenly.

5. Powder

If you are using a liquid lipstick, tinted lip balm, lip gloss, or a lip stain, you can move to the next step directly. However, if you are using a cream-based or oil-based lipstick formula, you can make it last long using a powder. Take a small paper towel and press it against your lips to let it take off some of the lip colors. Using a brush, now lightly dust the powder that you use to set your foundation on the paper towel while it is pressed against your lips. Remove the paper towel and apply another coat of your lipstick to complete the look.

You can now step out the door knowing that your lipstick is going to last for hours. If you want added shine to your luscious lips, you can apply a lip gloss or lip balm on top of your lipstick. You will be surprised how long your lipstick will last if you use the aforementioned tips to apply your lipstick. Make sure you carry the lipstick you are wearing for touch ups since your lipstick may fade slightly especially from the center of the lips after drinks, snacks, or meals.
