The first step towards finding the right shade of red lipstick for you, is to determine your skin undertone: is it cool, warm, or neutral? In order to do that you need do a simple test to IDENTIFY SKIN TONES. The rule of thumb with lipsticks and skin undertones is that warm skin tones should wear warm shades like corals and scarlets, while cool skin tones should use cool shades like berries and wine.
Stick to muted orange reds, that are less orange and more red. Too much of orange undertones would make this skin tone look too yellow and pallid.
Go with raspberry reds, that have pinkish-purple tones that lend it a ‘cool’ appearance. They’re a safe bet for fair skin with a cool undertone.
Medium and bronze skin types with warm undertones should try brick reds. While these are vibrant shades, they are muted and don’t contrast with your skin tone. The warm tones in the red shade highlight the golden undertones in the skin.
For olive skin tones, we recommend most red lipstick shades with the word ‘wine’ in it. While wine reds suit the cool tones in Olive skin, they also bring a glow to this skin tone.
To the warm skin tones from dusky to dark, we suggest a complete opposite to what we would for the cool dark skin tones. If you fall in this group, your best bet is bright orange reds to bring out that golden glow and light up your face.

You need to identify your skin undertone as warm, cool, or neutral before you choose a lipstick color. We believe that anyone can wear (almost) any color. The trick is to find shades in that color that suit your particular skin tone and undertone. For example, olive skin tones can try wine-based shades in red, and pink lipstick shades with purple or berry tones.
Warm skin tones should wear red lipstick shades with orange or warm brown undertones.
